by Jo Martinez I write to you of a young lady that is kept uprooted, grounded and still by the ones she calls, “Ma” and “Pa” Her parents She forgets they do so much, but later sees the light GRACE She was born and raised in a place where gas and smoke hovered around her like a swarm of people Athletic, Smart, and Determined The characteristics that make her the young lady she is today She holds her tennis racket and pack of balls like a baby holds its blanket “A” is what you read on her report card Perfection is her middle name Making old rusty spaces into beautiful works of art is what she desires She has goals!
